Dental Surgical Instruments

One of the most highly used medical services that there is, is dental services. Every day, untold numbers of people visit their local dentist to get a checkup, get a cleaning, a filling, or any of the other multitudes of services that dentists offer to people to care for their teeth. Have you ever wondered about the surgical instrumentsthat your dentist uses, though? Most people know very little or nothing at all about the equipment that is used to care for your mouth and teeth. This is a brief overview of some of the tools your dentist uses to keep your smile bright and healthy.

Perhaps the most familiar surgical instrument that the dentist uses is the drill. Nearly everybody at one time or another if you’ve had a cavity has heard the sound of the drill in their mouth. It’s used to remove any decay that is causing tooth damage and to prevent any further damage. Next is the pick or the probe, which is another very familiar tool that the dentist uses and serves in the same capacity as the drill; to remove buildup of decay and plaque that can cause tooth damage and to explore the damage that is already present to determine its extent.

Dentists also use mirrors in their arsenal of surgical instruments to better be able to see inside of your mouth and get a closer look at your teeth. You may have also experienced getting an anesthetic via a needle poke, too. Dental syringes are another important tool the dentist uses. Retractors are also used to help keep your mouth open during dental procedures. There are a number of different types of these that are in use today. Forceps and chisels are also used in the removal of teeth that are too damaged to be saved. This is just a small variety of the tools that your dentist uses on a regular basis.
